COLORFUL SCENE Mayor and Civic Officials, Church Dignitaries and University Authorities Present. Striking a significant note bearing on the mad whirl of materialism and militarism which engulfed the world and pointing to the spiritual and peaceful pursuits of the priesthood, the Most Rev. John J. Glennon, archbishop of St. Louis, this morning preached the sermon at the formal opening of the new St. Peter's Seminary. The sermon was preceded by the celebration of pontifical mass sung by the Rt. Rev. M. F. Fallon, bishop of London, who fathered the scheme which culminated in the rising of the classic building in Sunshine Park. The ceremonies were the seventh of a series incorporated into Catholic Centennial Week, which opened here Sunday. Favored by a bright day, the ceremonies drew more than 5, 000 persons. Among these were His Honor the Lieutenant-Governor, Col. Henry Cockshutt; Mayor J. M. Moore and city officials, members of the headquarters staff of Military District No. 1, representatives of the board of governors, the senate, administration staff and instructors of the University of Western Ontario, the public utilities commission, the board of education and civic bodies. Pleading guilty to illegal entry into Canada, James Edward Durham, 25, English, was sentenced by Magistrate Graydon this morning to one year in the common jail, together with a fine of $ 250 with three months additional in default of payment, and at the conclusion of this sentence deportation to England. Crown Attorney A. M. Judd, who prosecuted, with the charge being laid by D. H. Reynolds, traveling immigration officer from Ottawa, asked for the maximum sentence in view of Durham's past career, embracing bigamy, twice jailed for theft, and more than once deported from both Canada and the United States for efforts to enter the country illegally. Mr. Judd informed the court that Durham originally came, to Canada as a boy at 12 years of age.
