当時のカナダでは、議員が閣僚に任命されると議席をいったん手放し、再選を求めなければならなかった。この制度が廃止されるのは1931年である。そのため組閣には、総選挙が終わっていても、さらに選挙に敗れる危険が伴った。9月16日の記事は、14日の投票を経てキングが能力本位で人を選びやすくなったとみている。外部から招く人物に議席を用意するという話も、行政を担う人材と議会での基盤を同時に確保する問題につながっている。
12年前の新聞を投票日に配る意味

Choice of Ministry Next Step
Ottawa, Sept. 16.—Important changes in the King Government are anticipated at the Capitol, due largely to the fact that election contingencies do not loom so large following the recent election as they did in 1925. Mr. King can pick and choose his ministers for their fitness for portfolios, and practically ignore the possibility of defeat in the by-elections.
Hon. James A. Robb will resume the portfolio of finance, and Hon. Ernest Lapointe again be minister of justice. The ministry of customs will go to Hon. Chas. Dunning or some public man of outstanding calibre brought in for the special purpose. It is understood that he will not be selected from the elected members, but will be given a seat in whatever province he comes from.

Ground for Protest in London Seen
In the opinion of a number of prominent Liberals of the city, the distribution on the morning of election day, presumably by agents of the Conservative party, of a dodger dealing with the Liberal candidate, Dr. W. J. Stevenson, and his stand on temperance in 1914, constitutes sufficient ground for protesting the election of the Conservative candidate. Whether or not any action in that direction will be taken depends upon the decision made by the Liberal executive, which will meet this afternoon, and will have this particular angle of the recent campaign under consideration.

The dodger in question was a reproduction in miniature of the front page of The Advertiser of June 22, 1914, announcing the nomination of Dr. Stevenson as a candidate against the late Sir Adam Beck.

But in their anxiety to conceal their identity the perpetrators of the scheme carefully omitted to have the name of the printer or publisher shown on the face of the dodger, which brings it under the heading of “illegal practices,” the penalty for which, if traced to the agents of a candidate, is disqualification for five years.
Thousands of Children on Grounds
Young London today took possession of the Western Fair grounds. Swarming through the turnstiles shortly after 7 o'clock, school children made an early start through the buildings. With the schools closed both today and tomorrow, it is expected that record crowds will attend the exhibition.
While children composed the majority of the visitors at Queen's Park, there was no scarcity of adults and many of these arrived from out-of-town points throughout the morning.
The recent rains had little effect on the grounds and at noon the multitude was sitting about on the lawns, while groups here and there spread out lunches and enjoyed the noon meal picnic fashion.
Concessionnaires gave the boys and girls a royal welcome. The hot-dogs and the hamburgers, the finely-colored drinks of elusive flavors were reduced to half-price so that the dimes and nickels which had so lately reposed in tin banks would go twice as far as on the other days.
