この閉鎖によって学校の長年の要望が満たされ、校舎と、教育委員会が最近購入して学校別館に改修した旧ユニバーシティ・クラブの建物がつながるという。委員らによれば、道路を閉鎖する工事は近く始まる。
教育委員会は以前、道路閉鎖を求める請願を市委員会に提出していた。火曜日の会議では、近隣の不動産所有者約60人が署名した同趣旨の請願も読み上げられた。
市委員会はまた、モンゴメリー通りのリー通りからカトマ通りまで、45分の駐車時間制限を広げる条例を採択した。必要な路面表示と警告標識が整い次第、実施する。同通りの商店主28人が制限区間の拡大を求めた請願が実った形だ。

is opposed to a reduction of
$560,000,000 in federal taxes at
the coming short session of con
gress, as urged by^Senator Sim
mons, democrat, North Carolina,
considering such a step unwar
ranted by present conditions.
With the government running on
it* preient margin between expense
and income, the president believes any
■uch reduction in the immediate fu
ture might require an extensive and
perhaps inadvisable readjustment of
arrangements for disposing of the
huge national publio debt. At the
same time he favors reduction of taxes
as rapidly as they can be brought
down. He also favors .paying off the
public debt as speedily as possible
consistent with wise public financing.

An ordinance providing for the dos
ing of Scott street between Law
rence and McDonough streets, for the
purpose of providing a playground for
Sidney Lanier High school, was adopted
Tuesday morning by the dty com
mission In session at the city hall.
The closing of the street win pro
vide a need long felt by the Institu
tion, It was said, and will connect the
high school building with the old Uni
versity club building, recently pur-,
chased by the city board of education
and remodeled as an annex to the
school. Work of closing the street will
begin In the near future, according
to the city commissioners.
A petition was presented the city
commission some time ago by the city
board of education to close the Street.
A like petition, signed by approximate
ly sixty property owners in the vi
cinity. was read before the meeting
Tuesday.
The commission adopted an ordinance
extending the forty-five minute park
ing limit on Montgomery street from
Lee to Catoma streets,- to become ef
fective as soon as the street Is proper
ly marked and warning signs posted.
This action was the culmination of a
petition signed by 28 Montgomery
street merchants asking that the park
ing limit be extended.
As no protests were received for
sanitary sewers on Chilton and David
son streets, the commission ordered
that bids for the project be advertised.
An ordinance for the paving of side
walks on Hannon street between Mil
dred street and Clayton park was also

MEXICO CITT, Sept. 14.—(AP)—The
search for Jacob Rosenthal, well-to-do
American, of Woodmere Lons Island
has proved futile. He was kidnaped
by bandits Sunday while1 returning to
Mexico City by automobile from Cuer
navaca. The others of the party, Jack
Zahler, a prominent American resident
of Mexico City, his wife and Joseph
Ruff, Mr. Rosenthal’s son-in-law, were
robbed at the time but permitted to
continue their Journey.

of Mexican soldiers started out yes
terday to race the bandits, but re
turned here after vainly plunging Into
the dense woods near Hultatlhac, where
the outrage occurred, and spending
hours in fruitless search for the miss
ing man and his captors.
"The whereabouts and plight of the

Zahler. "That region Is wild, almost
impenetrable. It seema to me to be
possible for bandits to hide there in
