Instructions for participants in the 3 October parade and outdoor performance
Last night the board of the 3 October Association invited the women and men wishing to take part in the outdoor performance—the tournament—on October 4 to a meeting to watch a film of the knightly tournament staged so successfully in Alkmaar in 1923. The aim was to give everyone an idea of the performance and how a tournament unfolds.

The chairman of the Parade Committee, Mr B. de Koning, expressed his satisfaction at the large turnout and thanked Mr Van Rossum du Chattel in advance for agreeing to explain the festival plan, his own plan, in greater detail. He then made several announcements, including that the first rehearsal would take place on Saturday, September 18, at 3 p.m. on the festival grounds at Hooge Rijndijk, under the direction of Mr N. de Jong. Further rehearsals will be held on September 25 and 29.
Leiden Skating Club
The present situation could have continued were it not that the various buildings on the grounds were in a deplorable state and urgently needed alteration or replacement.
To provide members with facilities deserving the name of a proper refreshment and cloakroom pavilion, the board considered it necessary to raise the subscriptions.

The treasurer, Mr J. H. Harmsen, explained further that, given the steadily growing membership and continually increasing income from day tickets, a rise of 50 cents in the ordinary membership card would suffice, bringing the subscription to 4 guilders. He proposed increasing women's cards from 1 to 1.50 guilders and children's cards from 0.50 to 1 guilder.

After Mr De Graaf withdrew his proposal, Mr Wernink's proposal was put to the vote first and rejected by six votes to three.
Mr Harmsen's proposal—4, 1.50 and 1 guilder—was then adopted unanimously.
Tugboat sunk
A serious accident occurred yesterday afternoon on the Maas within the municipality of Krimpen aan den IJssel.

As a result, the Jupille was struck in the side and so badly damaged that she immediately began to sink.
The captain, engineer and deckhand were thrown into the water. The captain was soon rescued by some boatmen. The engineer and deckhand managed to cling to a side deck and were rescued shortly afterward with hooks by the crews of tugs that had come to help.
The captain's wife and young son, who were in the cabin, however, went down and drowned.
The captain tried to get them out of the cabin, but the tug sank so quickly that rescue was effectively impossible.
Context
Why Leiden staged a historical festival
Leiden’s annual October celebrations commemorate the end of the Spanish siege in 1574. The 3 October Association has organized festivities since 1886. The 1926 tournament belongs to this civic tradition of making the past a shared public event. A film of Alkmaar’s earlier performance offered volunteers a visual model, connecting historical pageantry with the newer medium of cinema.
A club’s facilities depended on its members
The skating club funded better buildings through a mixture of subscriptions and day-ticket sales. Growing use brought income, but the worn facilities still required an agreed contribution from members. The meeting’s competing proposals and final vote show how a voluntary association decided the price of shared leisure facilities. Different rates for ordinary, women’s and children’s cards also made the decision a question of how costs were distributed.
A workplace that also carried a family
The Jupille account reveals the family presence aboard a working tug: the captain’s wife and son were in its cabin. When the hull was struck, survival depended on immediate access to the outside and to nearby boats. The contrast between the men rescued from the water and the family trapped below explains the tragedy more directly than the collision alone.

Instrueering van de deelnemers aan den 3-October-Optocht en het Openluchtspel
Het bestuur der 3-Octobervereen. had gisteravond de dames en heeren, die hunne medewerking wenschen te verleenen aan het Openluchtspel (tournooi) op 4 October ter vergadering opgeroepen om bij te wonen de filmvertooning van het ridderspel, zooals dat in 1923 in Alkmaar met zoo veel succes is gegeven, met het doel allen een kijk te geven op het spel en het verloop van een tournooi.

De voorzitter van de Optocht-Commissie de heer B. de Koning sprak zijn voldoening over deze groote opkomst uit en dankte den heer Van Rossum du Chattel bij voorbaat dat hij zich bereid had verklaard het feestplan zijn plan nader toe te lichten en deed vervolgens nog eenige mededeelingen waaronder dat de eerste repetitie zal worden gehouden op Zaterdag 18 Sept. 's namiddags 3 uur op het feestterrein aan den Hooge Rijndijk waarbij de leiding is opgedragen aan den heer N. de Jong. De volgende repetities zullen plaats hebben 25 en 29 Sept.

Deze toestand zoude bestendigd kunnen blijven, ware het niet, dat de diverse gebouwen op het terrein in een déplorabelen toestand verkeerden en dringend verbouwing of vernieuwing behoefden.
Teneinde het mogelijk te maken, dat den leden een gelegenheid werd aangeboden, welke aanspraak zou kunnen maken op den naam van een behoorlijke restauratie- en garderobetent, achtte het bestuur het noodzakelijk tot verhooging der contributie over te gaan.

De penningmeester, de heer J. H. Harmsen lichtte dit nader toe en betoogde dat, aangezien het steeds stijgend ledental en de gedurige vermeerdering der inkomsten door den dagkaartenverkoop, men zou kunnen volstaan met een verhooging van 50 cents der gewone lidmaatschapskaarten, waardoor de contributie dan f 4 zou bedragen. De prijs der dameskaarten wilde spr. van f 1 op f 1.50 en die der kinderkaarten van f 0.50 op f 1 gebracht zien.

Nadat de heer De Graaf zijn voorstel had teruggenomen, werd allereerst het voorstel Wernink in stemming gebracht en met 6 tegen 3 stemmen verworpen.
Het voorstel Harmsen (f 4, f 1.50 en f 1) werd vervolgens met algemeene stemmen aangenomen.
Sleepboot gezonken
Op de Maas, onder de gemeente Krimpen aan den IJsel, is gistermiddag een ernstig ongeluk gebeurd.

Het gevolg was, dat de „Jupille” in de flank werd aangevaren, en zoodanige averij bekwam, dat zij onmiddellijk begon te zinken.
De kapitein, de machinist en de dekknecht geraakten te water. De eerste kon spoedig door eenige schippers worden gered. De machinist en de dekknecht wisten zich vast te houden aan een gangboord, en werden even later met behulp van haken door de bemanning van sleepbooten, die te hulp waren gekomen, gered.
De vrouw van den kapitein en het zoontje, die zich in de kajuit bevonden verdwenen evenwel in de diepte en verdronken.
De kapitein heeft nog getracht hen uit de kajuit te halen, doch de sleepboot zonk zoo snel, dat er van redden eigenlijk geen sprake meer kon zijn.
