Conservatives suffer heavy defeat in Canada’s general election
As already reported, the Canadian parliamentary election held on the 14th ended in a crushing defeat for the present Conservative government, with nine sitting cabinet members, including the prime minister, losing their seats. After four years, the Liberals now hold sway, and the present cabinet is expected to resign immediately. The election results were as follows. (Dispatched from Ottawa on the 15th.)

Context
Why a League election attracted attention across the world
A non-permanent Council seat gave a state a place in the League’s smaller body for handling international disputes. The number of these seats increased to nine in 1926. Countries outside the permanent great-power group therefore had a direct interest in the contest, and a Korean-language paper could report its arithmetic as consequential international news. The threshold in the dispatch shows that winning required support across a substantial group of delegations.
Losing an election meant losing ministers as well as seats
The Canadian report stresses that the prime minister and other cabinet members themselves failed to win their constituencies. This makes a party defeat a personal and institutional crisis for the government. The expectation of resignation follows from that parliamentary setting: the capacity to govern depends on political support in the elected chamber, while ministers must also confront their own electoral defeats.
How an opposition party prepares a public attack
The Seiyūkai item begins with an internal committee meeting rather than a parliamentary speech. “Coordinating views” identifies the organizational work needed to turn several politicians’ objections into a party position. Its pairing with “attack on the government” shows the intended next step: a collective challenge with an agreed line. The short notice lets readers follow the preparation of party politics before the public confrontation occurs.
