The politics of agreement
There has so far been nothing resembling agreement in this coalition. From time to time, one side would shut its eyes to the other’s actions. As for the government formed by such a coalition, it has shut its eyes to the actions of both.
Agreement understood in this way sets everything back. While ethnic exclusiveness grows sharper on one side, both sides press the Bunjevci and Bosnian Muslims to declare whether they are Serbs or Croats; Yugoslav identity is treated as heresy, and Strossmayer is denied his patriotism. Regional divisions are now spreading even among the Serbs. The Radicals are taking regional positions.

An infantry captain who tried to launch a revolt with the help of a small number of soldiers and civilians was arrested after an unsuccessful attempt to seize the post office and railway station, as the other regiments refused to follow him.
Context
Coalition partners and the pressure to choose an identity
The editorial objects to a coalition that accommodates its partners in government while intensifying division outside it. The Bunjevci and Bosnian Muslims occupy a telling place in the argument: being required to choose between Serb and Croat makes shared Yugoslav belonging harder to sustain. The writer’s alternative is a political community broader than either side’s ethnic claims. His complaint about regionalism among Serbs extends the criticism to fragmentation within a supposedly united camp.
How Hungary could have a throne without a king
Hungary restored the monarchy in 1920 but installed Horthy as regent rather than choosing a king. He resisted Charles’s attempts to return in 1921. This arrangement made the choice of a monarch a question of actual power: a restored king could displace the man already governing in the crown’s name. The newspaper’s three princes therefore represent more than rival family claims; each possible succession also tests the durability of Horthy’s leadership.
Why the loyalty of other regiments mattered at Chaves
Portugal’s military coup of May 28, 1926 ended the First Republic. Its leaders then struggled among themselves, and Carmona gained effective leadership in July after Gomes da Costa’s removal. In this unsettled military order, a local rising needed other units to join it to become a broader challenge. The Chaves dispatch singles out their refusal to follow the captain, explaining why possession of a few local strategic buildings could not by itself produce a successful coup.

Тако схваћен споразум враћа све у назад. Док се с једне стране племенска искључивост заоштрава, с обеју се Буњевци и босански муслимани гоне на изјашњење јесу ли Срби или Хрвати; југословенство сматра се као јерес, Штросмајеру се одриче родољубље.
