Conditions for Jiangsu–Shandong cooperation
News from Jinan: following repeated negotiations by Jin Yunpeng and others over cooperation between Jiangsu and Shandong, the Shandong side put forward four conditions. As Zhang Zongchang has set aside past grievances, Sun Chuanfang has accepted them in full. Both sides will join forces to campaign against the Reds.

Jin and Wang travel to Fengtian with Sun’s representative
Jin Yunpeng and Wang Zhanyuan, together with Sun Chuanfang’s representative Song Qishan, arrived in Tianjin from Jinan on the evening of the 15th. On the 16th they went together to Fengtian to negotiate conditions for cooperation between Jiangsu and Fengtian. Broadly, Fengtian and Shandong would send troops to attack along the Beijing–Hankou front. [Unclear] also sent a representative to Shenyang to meet Sun Chuanfang.

By today, about 20,000 troops have been transported to the Hunan border. Under Xie Hongxun’s command, they are stationed near Wuning, Xiushui and Tonggu. Xie plans to establish his headquarters near Yongxiu.

Reports coming from Jiujiang frequently contradict one another. Various signs nevertheless indicate that the southern army has advanced deep into Jiangxi, and Sun Chuanfang’s forces evidently have not been heard to offer resistance.

Cooperation had to be negotiated between armed powers
The Jiangsu–Shandong report shows an alliance being assembled through intermediaries, conditions and promises to set aside grievances. Sun Chuanfang’s acceptance was one step; discussions with Fengtian were another. The proposed direction of attack gave those negotiations an operational purpose. This is why the telegrams name both travellers and troop plans: military coordination depended on agreements among leaders whose forces remained separately commanded.
Jiangxi’s front was also an information struggle
The report places troop deployments beside rumours of withdrawal or unwillingness to fight. For readers trying to judge Sun Chuanfang’s position, those two kinds of news could point in different directions. The named places trace a concern with the route from the Hunan border into Jiangxi and toward Nanchang. The dispatch’s own acknowledgement of contradictory messages captures how a moving front could become a contest over expectations as well as territory.
A publisher sells the equipment of education
Founded in Shanghai in 1897, the Commercial Press grew from printing into a major educational publisher.
