Aftenposten's selected reports connect public regulation, industrial ambition and athletic achievement. Vinmonopolet's purchase of a spirits stock is described as effectively a forced sale, leaving questions of compensation and debt. The launch account of Stella Polaris celebrates engineering and ceremony while identifying the ship's builders and supervisors. A Berlin report credits Peltzer with a new middle-distance world record, placing Wide ahead of Nurmi. Some numerals in the source OCR need to remain explicitly unresolved.

Vinmonopolet has bought Poulsen & Co.'s stocks
For 524,024 kroner.
Special telegram to Aftenposten. HAMAR, September 12.—On Saturday, the directors of Romedal distillery accepted Vinmonopolet’s offer of 524,024 kroner for Poulsen & Co.’s stock of spirits. The Ministry of Social Affairs has indicated that a committee will be appointed to examine whether Romedal distillery has a legal claim to further compensation.
This agreement must be described as virtually a forced sale, since the banks had set Saturday as the final deadline for a decision. The total debts of Romedal distillery and Poulsen & Co. amount to about 2,000,000 kroner, so the remaining liability is still disproportionately large. It is therefore to be hoped that an arrangement for further compensation can be found. The spirits sold cost about 1,000,000 kroner to produce, including interest and expenses.
When Stella Polaris was launched
Of Saturday’s launch of Stella Polaris, Göteborgs Handels- och Sjöfartstidning writes:
An unusually interesting launch took place today at Götaverken, when the motor yacht Stella Polaris, being built for the Bergen Steamship Company, entered the water with due ceremony at 11:30.
Following established custom, Miss Lilli […], daughter of the shipping company’s managing director, Councillor Kr. Lehmkuhl, broke a champagne bottle against the vessel’s gracefully shaped bow and wished it a happy future at sea. The restraints were then released, and the ship slid into the water to cheers from the guests and Götaverken’s staff.
Besides Councillor Lehmkuhl and his daughter, director Zimmer and his wife were present on behalf of the purchaser. Zimmer designed the ship in consultation with Götaverken’s technical staff and, with his assistants engineer Vedeler and inspector Nielsen, supervised its construction.
Germany's Peltzer beat Nurmi in Berlin on Saturday afternoon
Germany’s Peltzer beat Nurmi in Berlin on Saturday afternoon and set a new 1,500-metre world record of 3:51.0. Sweden’s Wide was second, only eight-tenths of a second behind the German.
BERLIN, September 12.—At an international athletics meeting here, Peltzer of Germany set a new 1,500-metre world record with a time of 3:51.0. The previous record was […]. Wide of Sweden was second in 3:51.8, and Nurmi of Finland third in 3:52.8.
Context
The monopoly was part of a changing alcohol economy
Vinmonopolet was established in 1922 amid negotiations over Norway’s trade with European wine-producing countries. It became a central institution in the country’s effort to reconcile alcohol controls with commerce. This stock purchase shows a financial side of that system: a producer faced a bank deadline, a buyer offered much less than production costs, and compensation remained at issue. The transaction affected creditors and manufacturers as well as the regulation of drinking.
A Norwegian ship built in a Swedish yard
The Stella Polaris ceremony brings together a Norwegian shipping company and a Swedish shipbuilder. The report names the buyer’s director as a participant in design and construction supervision, showing that the relationship extended beyond simply ordering a finished vessel. The champagne and cheers mark a public milestone in this cross-border industrial project. Behind the celebration stood the work of designers, engineers and yard staff.
Three countries in a tightly contested race
The results place Germany, Sweden and Finland side by side, with less than two seconds separating the first three runners. The headline celebrates Peltzer’s defeat of Nurmi, but Wide actually finished between them. Reading the placing alongside the banner reveals a three-way contest rather than a simple duel. The precise recording of the times conveys how small margins could change the international order at the finish.

Vinmonopolets bud paa Poulsen
for avgjørelsen. Romedal brænderi og Poulsen & Co.s hele gjæld
utgjør ea. 2 mill. kr., saa ansvaret
blir fremdeles uforholdsmæssig
stort, og man maa derfor haabe
at der kan findes en ordning for
yderligere erstatning. Den -solgte
produktion av spirituosa har kostet ca. 1 mill. kr., renter og omkostninger indbefattet.
