According to the Ford factory’s official announcement, this innovation will not entail a reduction in car production, since greater efficiency through the use of machinery has made it possible to do in five days the same work that previously took six.

The race to stay aloft
Here “raid” describes a long-distance flying expedition. Le Bourget was a base for repeated attempts to extend nonstop range: the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace records Breguet flights to Omsk in July 1926 and Aswan in September, followed by Djask in October. This competition helps explain the prominence given to gasoline, oil and expected endurance in Crítica’s lead. Remaining aloft for about 48 hours was the pilots’ stated ambition. Why a flight became a monument
The Plus Ultra left Palos de la Frontera on 22 January 1926 and reached Buenos Aires on 10 February, travelling by stages across the South Atlantic. Its arrival combined a technical achievement with public celebration of links between Spain and Argentina. The Spanish government subsequently gave the aircraft to Argentina as a token of friendship.
